My New Favourite Animal
This week's star is the squirrel
Squirrels can burrow or chew into just about anything. They have caused dam
failures, major power outages, and taken down NASDAQ twice. Squirrels are
omnivorous but can't digest cellulose. Some squirrels have been known to
kill and eat other animals, including a chicken and a snake. They can be
trained to do tricks, eat from your hand, and be kept as pets. Squirrel
meat is highly regarded in
some parts of the US and Britain, although the American Heart Association
says it is high in cholesterol :) And just try keeping them out of your bird
feeders.

Overview
Welcome to the Pixin Community Access Unix System (CAUS)! CAUS provides
free unix shells, web space, email, Usenet news, and community forums. We
do not charge for any of these services. Anyone can apply for an account on
this system. Basically it is "first come, first served," but some
preference will be given to non-profit groups, community organizations,
open-source developers, etc.
Want to learn about Unix or programming? Here's a great chance!
Somewhere to put your community organization's web page? Look no further!
How about sharing your expertise on your favourite subjects with other
interested people? I can set up forums or mailing lists on basically
any topic.
The CAUS is fully connected to the IPv6 Internet as well!
Services We Provide
- Access to a Unix shell: choose from csh, ksh or bash. From the shell
you have access to editors (vim, emacs, pico), compilers (gcc, g++,
Java SDK), python and perl, mail clients (mutt, pine, elm), a news reader
(slrn), ssh client, text-mode web browser (links), and various other
programs. Help is available for most commands by typing "man X" where
"X" is the command or program name.
- Personal web space for your home page.
- A personal email address where you can send and receive mail. PGP is also available to ensure your privacy.
- Full access to our Usenet news feed.
- Community forums and local newsgroups (not yet available)
Other services may be added on request. Just ask!
Why Do You Do All This
The main goals of this service are:
- Provide a home online for individuals and organizations who might not
otherwise have one.
- Provide an environment for learning about Unix and Internet technology
- Help people to help people by making connections and sharing information
This server is dedicated to the memory of Yves 'strafer' Nantel (1973-2008),
a hopeless geek and one of the most generous and giving people I have ever
known, who inspired me to try to give something back.
